filescape for macOS

Beyond folders. Beyond search.
A living map of everything you keep.

Filescape turns any folder into a semantic terrain — documents, images, and notes settling into a landscape you can read at a glance. Entirely on your Mac.

How it works

  1. 1

Reads locally. Point filescape at a folder. Files stay where they are; it reads text and images in place and keeps a small index on your Mac.

  2. 2

Embeds. Each document becomes a vector — by default with a local model running on your Mac, or with a provider you choose.

  3. 3

Contours by density. A 2D projection lays the vectors out as terrain, with contour lines where documents cluster and a label on each cluster.

Privacy

Your files never leave your Mac. Filescape indexes them in place, and with the default local models nothing is sent anywhere. If you choose a cloud provider for embeddings, the content being embedded is sent to that provider — and nothing else is.

Research

Filescape is built on the Latent Lab engine from the Viral Communications Group at the MIT Media Lab.
